Is Bái Lián (白莲) a good Chinese name?

It’s an OK name, a bit lowbrow, but a perfectly fine name.

It shares the same name with a cult, the White Lotus – Wikipedia. But I don’t think it’ll be an issue.

What’s your last name? Because Bai Lian is an actual thing (white lotus), your last name might make it sound weird. For example, if your last name is 史 or 石, 史/石白莲 would sound like shit white lotus. Still, unless you are naming your children, anyone above kindergarten age wouldn’t find it funny.

Also, because Chinese is a tonal language, both Bai and Lian are Ping tone, so if your last name is also Ping, your name would sound a bit odd. That’s entirely nitpicking, though. The majority of Chinese parents won’t care about this either, but it’s something to consider.
