What is the coolest Chinese symbol and its meaning?

For me it must be this character

武(wu 3) majorly means martial art,or Kung Fu ,one of the most famous Chinese cultural symbol for the world.

武 is also related to military or war, like 武器(weapon),武装(arm),武力(force) etc, which is definitely not most people are fond of.

However, let’s talk about the writing structure of the character. It could be recognised as being constructed by two variants of two other characters.

One is

止(zhi 3) means “stop” that has the variant at the left-down side of 武。

And the rest part is evolved from

戈(ge 1) is a kind of weapon from the Bronze Age of China like this

It’s symbolic in Chinese literature that used to refer warfare.

So here we can understand the truth of 武 . It’s “止戈”

a.k.a “Stop war”.

Seems there’s a contradiction , right? Using a character that is calling for peace to refer war and skills created for joining combat.

There were strategists from west that understood it well:

Si vis pacem ,para bellum . ——<<De Re Militari>> by

Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus

If you want peace, prepare for war.

A perfect work of human contradictory.
