What are some rare Chinese characters?

The Chinese character 稀 is rare. It is often in the news these days as 稀土 or rare earth (elements). 稀 is xi¹ (like c).

Before the character 稀/希 was coined 罕 is often used for rare. It was composed of a net above a forked stick. I think they caught something rarely seen which is 罕han³见jian⁴ (rarely seen).

Nowadays we don’t see 尟 which is rare but is called xian¹ as in 鲜 and is fresh. 是 is yes and 少 is few or little (in number). Yes 尟 is indeed rare nowadays.

是 is the original 提 which has the idea of “ascend” picture of walking towards the sun. 提 is raised, 提子 is raisins ( 葡萄干 ).

In Greek “harpazo” is translated as “being caught up” or 被提 which is in the Book.
